The AHAA Amateur Committee has scheduled a
Natural Trail Riding Clinic for the morning of Sunday, May 18.
We would be using the facilities of:

Mary Lou Houge
Rio Estancia
14824 E. Estancia Way
Scottsdale, AZ 85262

It's roughly 150 th St. & Dynamite. It's a nice place with access to McDowell Mountain Ranch Preserve a few blocks away.

Our instructor will be Bob Leary. You may know him from some of his prior activities: seminars at the Scottsdale Show demonstrating riding techniques, instructor at Pretty Penny Ranch & a leading instructor for Scottsdale Community College's Equine program. He has developed programs for Natural Trail Competitions. Most recently, he's been asked to develop & coach the new Western Division Equine program for Arizona State University.

His suggested itinerary is two hours in the arena and two hours on the trail. We will work in the arena on being able to control your horse in an emergency, proper turns, proper stops, controlling the gait of you horse, foot fall sequence, rating your horse's speed, and overall trail safety. After which we will ride out into the McDowell Mountain Ranch Preserve.

The fee would be $50 per rider with a limit of 12 riders. Others who might be interested in auditing the clinic are also welcome. The fee for audit is $20. We would ask all attendees to arrive around 7:30a, so that we may start at 8:00a, and should return to the ranch around 12p for lunch.

Refreshments & lunch will be provided.

Anyone interested should contact Peggy@pakisiel@aol.com as soon as possible due to the limitations. Please make sure to send your full name, email address, and contact number(s).

The Amateur Committee of the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona is committed to the education and support of the amateur owner in the care, use and enjoyment of the Arabian horse.

The AHAA Amateur Committee has been busy over this long, hot summer and we’d like to share what we have been doing, and what we have planned over the winter months.

“Behind The Scene Tours”

We are doing “Behind the Scenes Tours” on Saturday at 12 PM, 2 PM and 4 PM Tours go to various barns Tour participants get a behind the scene look at what happens at a horse show, and to meet the trainers, exhibitors and our great Arabian horses.

“Meet a Horse”

The Tours are preceded by “Meet a Horse.” Meet a Horse has been very successful for us in many different venues. Our star, “Clancy”, from Rio Estancia will be joined by Smokey and Rosie. Kids love the chance to get up close, and the adults are there too!
